Welcome to the world of design principles in Ontop. In this fast-paced and ever-evolving landscape, it is crucial to establish a strong foundation that aligns with our company.
Simple
We strive for minimalism and clarity removing any extraneous elements that may cause confusion or distraction.
By focusing on a single task or goal at a time, users are better able to engage with and complete that task without feeling overwhelmed or distracted.
Design interfaces and experiences that prioritize simplicity and focus on one task at a time. Minimize unnecessary notifications, alerts, or irrelevant information that could divert users' attention from the current task, enabling them to concentrate on the task at hand. Establish a clear hierarchy of information and actions, ensuring that users can easily identify and focus on the primary task.
Present information and options in a progressive manner, revealing additional details or features as needed, to avoid overwhelming users with excessive choices or complexity upfront. We aim to reduce cognitive overload. Just because we can build it doesn’t mean we should.
Magical
We aim to create experiences that go beyond basic utility or function and instead blend elements of wanderlust and magic, inspiring users to embark on captivating journeys of discovery and enchantment.
We want to create a deeper connection between users and their products by evoking emotions of wonder, surprise, and delight, and creating an experience that feels special and memorable.
Design interfaces and experiences that spark serendipitous discoveries by incorporating unexpected and delightful surprises along the user’s journey, such as hidden easter eggs. Incorporate storytelling elements that engage users emotionally and intellectually, sparking their imagination and encouraging a deeper connection with the product. Use immersive visuals, stunning imagery, and captivating animations to transport users to new and intriguing places, stimulating their curiosity.
Be mindful of not overcomplicating the user experience in pursuit of creating a magical experience.
Empathetic
We design products and experiences that prioritize empathy and understanding of users' needs, feelings, and experiences.
We use research and user testing to gain insights into users' perspectives and design products that are sensitive to their goals, preferences, emotions, cognitive biases, situational constraints, and limitations.
Use personalization (custom preferences, historical user behavior, etc.) to create products and services tailored to individual users. Use clear and concise language and visuals that are easy to understand, and avoid jargon or technical terms that may be confusing. Provide helpful tips, feedback, and error messages, and always provide the user with a way out.
Trustworthy
We aim to build trustworthy products and experiences that foster positive and long-lasting relationships with our users.
We do this by incorporating design elements that promote clear and transparent communication, reliable and secure technology, and ethical design practices, and by being transparent about any potential risks or limitations of the product or service.
Provide clear and concise instructions and feedback to users throughout the user journey, and communicate any relevant updates or changes.Provide users with the information they need to make informed decisions and avoid dark patterns that manipulate or exploit them.
Consistently deliver stable and responsive performance, minimizing errors, disruptions, or unexpected behaviors that may undermine user trust.Incorporate trust elements such as user reviews, testimonials, and social proof.Ensure that users understand how their personal data is collected, used, and shared, and employ reliable and secure technology to protect user data and privacy.
Global
We create products and experiences for global audiences. They should be easily understood and accepted, regardless of geographic location, cultural, or linguistic background.
We focus on creating designs that transcend borders, ignite a desire to explore the world, and are inclusive and accessible to a wide range of users including those with disabilities.
Design interfaces that are easy to translate and localize into different languages. Avoid cultural assumptions or stereotypes that may be offensive or confusing to users from different cultures, including the use of color, imagery, and iconography.
Consider incorporating features such as larger font sizes, high contrast, or audio cues to assist users who may have visual or hearing impairments. It may also involve designing interfaces that are easy to navigate for users who may have limited mobility or dexterity. Conduct user research to better understand the needs, goals, and cultural backgrounds of users from different parts of the world.
